Binance Expands bStocks Collateral Access

Binance has expanded access to its bStocks tokenized securities collateral program, allowing all eligible users in permitted jurisdictions to use supported bStocks as collateral across Cross Margin and Portfolio Margin accounts.

The change, announced on Sept. 21, removes the previous VIP 3-and-above restriction for bStocks collateral. Binance says the broader access is subject to eligibility requirements, collateral ratios, valuation haircuts, margin rules and applicable regulatory requirements.

The expansion comes as bStocks continues to grow following its June 2026 launch. According to figures reported around the latest announcement, cumulative bStocks trading volume has surpassed $30 billion in less than 90 days. Binance Research had previously reported that bStocks generated $7.4 billion in decentralized exchange volume during July, representing about 85% of all tokenized-equity DEX trading that month.

How bStocks Can Be Used as Collateral

The expanded collateral system gives eligible users additional ways to use tokenized equity positions within Binance's trading infrastructure. Supported bStocks can be pledged as collateral while users maintain exposure to the underlying market through Binance's margin and futures products.

One use case is leveraged purchasing. Users can borrow quote assets through eligible Cross Margin or Portfolio Margin accounts to acquire bStocks, with the source material describing leverage of up to for this type of strategy. Binance has also previously integrated bStocks collateral into other leveraged products, although availability and limits depend on the specific product and user's eligibility.

Another feature is the ability to convert eligible traditional stock holdings into bStocks. Binance says eligible bStocks are backed 1:1 by the corresponding underlying securities, while users can retain the ability to redeem eligible bStocks for the underlying assets under the applicable terms. However, bStocks themselves are not direct ownership of the underlying shares and do not provide shareholder rights.

Tokenized Stock Trading Is Scaling Rapidly

The expansion follows a sharp increase in activity across the tokenized-equity market. Binance Research reported that bStocks' cumulative trading volume had reached $8.7 billion by late July, while July alone generated about $7.4 billion in bStocks DEX volume.

Binance Research also found that bStocks represented approximately 85% of tokenized-equity DEX volume in July. At that point, the combined bStocks trading volume across Binance and on-chain venues was equivalent to about 0.3% of the volume of the underlying stocks and ETFs, up substantially from 0.01% six weeks earlier.

The wider growth shows that tokenized equities are increasingly being used for trading activity rather than simply held as blockchain representations of traditional assets. Binance's research has highlighted the ability of bStocks to trade outside conventional U.S. equity-market hours, giving the tokens a different trading schedule from their underlying securities.

Binance Adds Risk Controls for Lower VIP Tiers

Opening collateral access to a wider group of users also prompted Binance to introduce additional risk controls for Regular, VIP 1 and VIP 2 accounts holding bStocks as collateral.

According to Binance's Sept. 21 announcement, these users must complete a suitability assessment before using bStocks as collateral or participating in bStocks Margin trading when that feature becomes available. Accounts that cross specified risk thresholds can face temporary restrictions designed to reduce additional exposure.

Potential restrictions include limits on additional bStocks transfers, restrictions on purchasing or borrowing certain medium- and low-liquidity assets, limits on opening new futures positions in Portfolio Margin accounts, and pauses on automatic top-ups for specified assets.

Binance says these restrictions are automatically removed when an account returns to a safe risk level. High-liquidity assets remain unrestricted under these controls, while VIP 3 and above users are exempt from the specific risk measures introduced for lower tiers.

bStocks Become Part of a Broader Multi-Asset Strategy

The collateral expansion reflects Binance's broader effort to combine crypto markets with traditional financial assets through a single trading infrastructure. Rather than treating tokenized equities as assets that simply track stocks, Binance is integrating selected bStocks into margin, futures and other trading functions.

Binance Head of Exchange and Trading Shunyet Jan described the potential benefit as allowing users to treat tokenized equities and crypto positions as part of the same portfolio. The idea is that a user could retain exposure to a stock or ETF-linked bStock while also using that position within a broader risk-management strategy.

Binance Research on tokenized stock adoption

For beginners, the key distinction is that a bStock is a tokenized security rather than a conventional share held directly by the user. Binance's documentation states that bStocks provide exposure to the price performance of underlying listed equities but do not represent direct ownership or shareholder rights. Availability also depends on jurisdiction and eligibility.

As bStocks trading activity continues to expand, the collateral rollout gives the product another function beyond simple tokenized stock exposure. It connects tokenized equities with Binance's existing margin and futures infrastructure, while the exchange's additional risk controls are designed to manage the higher exposure associated with broader collateral access.
